When an animal first enters the world, it is small and weak. Before it learns to protect and care for itself, it needs someone to look after it. That is why animals’ brains are wired for a process called imprinting. Imprinting occurs in the first moments of life. When a baby animal is born, it is affected by the creatures around it, typically its parents. The process begins when the baby recognizes a moving object. It will follow the object and imitate its sounds and movements.
