Every year, people gather in West Virginia to celebrate something special. It’s not an ordinary holiday with parties or gifts. It’s an exciting event called Bridge Day, which takes place on one of the most famous bridges in the United States—the New River Gorge Bridge. Before the bridge was built, the only way to cross the deep valley was by taking a long and winding road. In the 1960s, a new highway was planned, but it didn’t solve the problem of crossing the gorge.
