Giannis was born in Athens, Greece, on December 6, 1994. His parents moved there from Nigeria illegally, so he wasn' t allowed to become a Greek citizen. Since he was born overseas, Giannis wasn' t able to get Nigerian citizenship, either. For the first 18 years of his life, he wasn' t an official citizen of any country. Life in Greece was very difficult for his family. His parents had trouble finding work, so Giannis and his brother tried to help by selling watches and sunglasses.
